Over this past winter break 7 of our SUA family embarked on a journey to Panama with the SU chapter of Global Brigades to promote sustainable public health, bond with the community, and provide relief where there is limited healthcare. They volunteered for about a week, immersed in a new culture and place to spread health education and compassion to the people of Panama. Meet our SUA Secretary: Sophia Bourgeois!
Sophia is a Sophomore at SU studying Public Health on a pre-medicine track. She joined SUA in 2015, the fall of her freshman year. Sophia’s responsibility as Secretary is to attend the Admin meetings and then create an enthusiastic email to send out to all of the SUA membership. This email informs members of what is going on at SUA within the executive and administrative branches. Sophia’s favorite part about holding this position is how she can use her enthusiasm and love for SUA to keep the membership informed and excited. A fun fact about Sophia is that she lives in France in the summer and speaks fluent french! Sophia says that, “When I joined SUA my freshman year, I not only joined an organization that serves the SU community, but I also joined a family… one that I will forever be apart of.” 😊🚑 #suambulance #suafam #nyems (at Syracuse University)

Meet our SUA Treasurer: David Dupont!
David is a Junior at SU studying Finance and Accounting. He joined SUA in the fall of his Sophomore year in order to give back to the Syracuse community while gaining a set of vital skills and friends that he will cherish his entire life. As the Treasurer of SUA, David is responsible for assembling an annual budget that is crucial to allow the organization to operate day-to-day. Everything from gauze all the way to new equipment on our ambulances must be budgeted a year ahead of time in order to gain our funding from the SA. David works side by side with SUA’s President, VP and EMS Manager in order to do so. David says “Joining SUA has had the biggest impact on my time spent at SU. I have gained a group of lifelong friends that are some of the hardest working and generous people I have ever met. The organization as a whole fulfilled a deep need and want of mine to be involved in EMS and being able to do so with my friends is an amazing facet that I wouldn’t trade in for anything!”. David is a Driver Trainer, Dispatcher at SUA and is currently taking the New York State EMT class which has its final exam this coming Thursday! Good luck, David! 👍🏼🚔
Meet our SUA Vice President: Megan Panebianco!
Megan is a Junior majoring in Psychology and is going on her 3rd year in SUA! Megan fell in love with SUA the moment she joined and has dedicated many hours to becoming a Driver, Crew Chief and Dispatch Trainer. As Vice President, Megan is the liaison between the Syracuse community and SUA and she is responsible for creating fun events to bring the organization closer together. This year Megan has planned events such as SUA Paintball, SUA Admin Retreat to Montreal and her latest event SUA MANNEQUIN CHALLENGE! Megan also schedules 8 members to Volunteer at the Rescue Mission Soup Kitchen two times a month! Megan is also a member of the Ultimate Frisbee team but her all time favorite activity is watching Criminal Minds in SUA Quarters! “Honestly, I am the person I am today because of SUA. It has made such an impact not only on my college career but in my life. Everyday I look forward to giving back to my community and helping those in need and the best part about it is I get to do it with my best friends. These people are my family and I couldn’t imagine my life without them!”

Meet our SUA President: Emilia Navarrete!
Emilia is a junior International Relations major from Buffalo, NY and joined the SUA team in the Fall of her freshman year (Fall ‘14 shoutout Nat and AJ) and hit the ground running. She became an EMT and immediately fell in love with the organization. As President, her responsibilities include helping to plan the budget for the following year and making sure that SUA has all of the gear and equipment it needs. She is also our liaison between the SU community and SUA by making sure we meet the requirements as an RSO on campus. She is a Driver, Crew Chief Progression and a Dispatcher. When she isn’t running around quarters and being loud and proud of SUA, she is doing community service with the brothers of Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity and sailing on the SU Sailing team. Her hobbies include sleeping, talking, eating sushi, watching Law and Order SVU, and traveling.
“I can’t imagine not having joined SUA my freshman year. Every time I walk in the door it’s like I’m coming home and these people are my family. I love volunteering and dedicating my time to something so different and interesting. Meet our Special Events Supervisor: Paola Louzado!
Paola is a senior majoring in Public Health on a pre-medicine track. She joined SUA in the fall of 2014 with the goal of getting involved in the Syracuse University community. As Special Events, Paola is in charge of informing the SUA membership of events that Syracuse University requests either for a Full Ambulance crew or single emergency medical technicians as foot responders. Events can range from a basketball game to a 5k; it all depends on the request. Paola is also in charge of planning National EMS week on campus which this year is being held NOV 13th through NOV 20th!🎉🚑Paola says, “SUA is one of the best organizations on campus, join if you have the opportunity, it will literally change your life.”
Meet our Fleet Supervisor: Corey Reiner!
Now a Senior majoring in Public Health, Corey is responsible for maintaining the appearance and operational function of the organizations vehicles, which may be needed at a moment’s notice any time day or night. This year Corey has been working with our EMS Manager to purchase a new MTS van and a new Ambulance (coming spring ‘17). Joining in the Fall of his Freshman year, he is now a Driver Trainer FTO and a Crew Chief Trainer. When Corey isn’t found cleaning and maintaining SUA’s vehicles, he can be found working at HealtheConnections for his capstone or working on his own car. Corey’s hobbies include anything cars (but mainly his), everything sports and working for his ambulance corps back home. Corey states “Other than studying abroad, SUA is the most fulfilling experience of my college career. Along with allowing me to continue working as an EMT, something I’ve been doing at home since high school, SUA introduced me to some of the most incredible people I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet and work with. Through SUA I have been able to build relationships with people who I on count on today, tomorrow or in 20 years. Meet our Facilities Supervisor: Evan Carter!
Evan is a sophomore studying biology on a pre-medicine track, and the Facilities Supervisor for SUA. He joined SUA in the fall of my freshman year hoping to contribute to the lives of Syracuse students and make some new friends along the way. As Facilities, Evan makes sure we are always fully stocked with the supplies we need to provide great patient care and keep the organization running smoothly. Hi job also includes helping to keep our quarters clean and organized. His favorite facet of SUA is that it “gave me a family of motivated and courageous individuals who I can trust to have by my side when helping others. Beyond this, SUA has gifted me a great sense of pride in being able to wear a uniform which represents the school, the best organization on campus, and the good we do by serving others.” #keep111cool #nyemt🚑 #suambulance
Meet our Training Supervisor: Jenny Aciu!
Jenny’s responsibilities include conducting trainings to strengthen the skills of the organization and to push members through their progressions. Jenny joined SUA in the Spring of her sophomore year and has not looked back since. As a senior member, she is currently a Crew Chief, Crew Chief Trainer, Driver, Dispatcher, and Dispatch trainer. When she isn’t planning surprise Multi Casualty Incident (MCI) Drills, she is seen in Lawrinson Hall where she works as a second year RA. Jenny’s hobbies include napping for extended periods of time, eating, and running around between jobs and enjoying her Senior year. Jenny states “SUA has changed my life and I can genuinely say that I have a college experience most others do not have. I do not know where I would be without this amazing organization, filled with incredible people, creating genuine friendships and memories, all while saving lives alongside some of my best friends”. Jenny plans on continuing her EMS experience when she continues to Graduate school next fall.
